俳句を知っていますか。はいくをしっていますか。

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that is known throughout the world.  Haiku are made of three lines, with a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. They usually include a 季語(きご)or "season word" that evoke emotion and is a reference to the Japanese reverence for nature, though those written in English can be about any topic.

One of the most famous writers of haiku is Basho Matsuo, who was born the year 1644.

Here is his most well known haiku:

古池や (5) 蛙飛込む (7) 水の音 (5)
ふるいけや かわずとびこむ みずのおと
Translated:
old pond . . .
a frog leaps in
water’s sound

Can you see the patterns? How about the 季語(きご)?  Next week, 日本語(にほんご)2 will be writing their own haiku and making scrolls in class. Won't you try your own? 英語でも日本語でもかまいません。(えいごでもにほんごでもかまいません。)English or Japanese is okay!

これは先生のはいく:

雨上がり                あめあがり                    After the rain
空の星空 からのほしぞら            The empty starry sky
懐かしい なつかしい                    Is nostalgic

It has no real meaning, I just like how it sounded! :P

 頑張ってね!(がんばってね!)

ビデオもありますよ!
